Sesame Dates Laddu || Calcium Rich Food Recipe for Kids || Nuvvulu undalu || Vegan recipe || Sesame Sweet Balls

Growing kids need nearly 1000 mg of calcium in a day. Sesame seeds are an excellent source of  calcium and manganese, which keeps bones healthy. They also contain several nutrients which help to maintain proper immune system.

Some children refuse to have milk everyday and parents may worry about this. They are many other plant sources that contains calcium which we can offer to children as well as adults. The recipe I have done is completely vegan, nutritious and is very tasty too. In this recipe, I used Dates as sweetening the recipe. I have used Pumpkin seeds and Sunflower seeds for some additional taste and protein. You can vomit them if you do not like to add and it tastes equally good without them also.

Ingredients:

  • Sesame seeds - 2 cups
  • Sunflower seeds - 1/2 cup (optional)
  • Pumpkin seeds - 1/2 cup (optional)
  • Dates deseeded - 1 cup

Process:

  1. First take a pan, and dry roast the sesame seeds until they start to splutter and immediately take them into a wide plate and cool down a little bit.
  2. Next dry roast sunflower and pumpkin seeds until they release a nice aroma or until they change to light brown in color. This step is entirely optional, if you like to add pumpkin or sunflower seeds only.
  3. Now add Dates into a food processor/ mixer grinder and make it into smooth paste and keep it aside. I have used Omani Dates in this recipe.
  4. Next add the dry roasted sesame seeds, pumpkin and sunflower seeds into the mixer grinder and make into fine powder.
  5. Combine the dates mixture with seeds powder and make into round balls/laddus using hands,  as sesame seeds releases oil while mixing we can easily combine. A yummy treat, Sesame Laddu is now ready to serve.

Tips:

  • Always dry roast the ingredients in a very slow flame
  • Never use a non stick pans/ kadai to dry roast as it releases toxic fumes/ gases . Use a stainless steel or a iron kadai/pan for dry roasting.
  • If Dates are unavailable at home, instead use organic jaggery which is dark brown in color.
